A Walk Through the School
How We Started
After studying and performing and teaching in Vancouver and Toronto Lloyd and Diana English moved to Sidney and began teaching in the North Saanich/Sidney area in 1987 as well as in Victoria at Lloyd's private studio called the Guitar Studio on Fort St.
They both also performed regularly throughout the Victoria area in their own group called the Hi-Lights while Lloyd also freelanced as a guitarist and vocalist for studio projects and jingles.
In 2001 we opened Sidney Musicworks and it soon became evident that there was a need for a local Music Academy and so in the summer of 2009 we built the Peninsula Academy of Music Arts.
After much searching, about 2000 hours of work and a lot of help we built our little "Boutique" Academy at 1662 Mills Road. We are now happy to have 9 sound-designed studios and over 300 students on all instruments.
We offer the finest instruction both in the Classical and Popular styles with a wonderful staff of teachers many of whom have been with us for many years going back to when we were teaching at our Sidney Musicworks Store location. All of our instructors are active professional performers and recording artists or hold College and University degrees.
We strive to make music not only educational but fun as well for students of all ages from our kindergarten childrens programs to our most senior student at the age of 90 taking drums.
Our goal is to introduce music into the lives of as many people within our community as possible so that they might know the joy and realize the lifelong benefit of being a participant in music making.
We offer full time reception as well as parking for 30 cars and a student waiting area. currently we sponsor 6 recitals yearly including our year end recital and support and provide our students with many other performance opportunities including "Battle of the Bands" and our PAMA compilation CD as well as numerous other opportunities throughout the greater Victoria area.
It is our mission to enhance the arts and music culture and creativity on the Peninsula by providing the best in affordable music education for students of all ages.
We feel privileged to be a part of this community and to offer what we feel is an essential part of a balanced Arts Education right here on the Peninsula.
